Southern Challenge May 2006

The 43 golfers and Shaggy arrived in George on Thursday evening 11 May after quite an eventful bus journey. A bit of "braai" meat and a nomadical amount of alcohol was appreaciated.

Day 1 - Friday 12 May - Alliance Stableford at Mossel Bay.
This set the tone for comaraderie as the event was played with S/Cape and S/Natal partnering each other. Quite a strange day, whoever heard of 32 degrees and no wind in Mossel Bay, especially in the afternoon.

Day 2 - Saturday 13 May - Betterball Stableford at Bramble Hill.
The first bit of competition between the sides, and thanks to Tannah for giving S/Natal a taste of what the greens would be like at Oubaai the next day.

Day 3 - Sunday 14 May
Monthly game and Southern Challenge played at Oubaai Golf Club. The sun was shining again, but a cold blistery breeze did not help. Thank goodness we were given a fairly short course for the day.
Results of this challenge -
Southern Cape 28,3571
Southern Natal 26,8605
It looks as if Joe is definately improving on Tannah's performance as captain.

Our thanks to all our local and national sponsors for the day, with a special mention to Christo de Klerk of Loerie Toyota as the main sponsor of the day.

Also, thanks to Pick 'n Pay Minipick Family Store for the Andrew Mentis Hamper.

The fines session for the day was conducted by our irish wandering doctor Flats Huisamen. We were also entertained to a story about Graham Williams from a Southern Nataler. We will not mention the name in case Graham wishes to take revenge.

Presentations to our Captain Joe van Wyk (10 year tie) and new inductee Jan Griessel. Congrats.

Thanks to the Pink Ladies for their days work. We really appreciate it. Hope you enjoyed your lunch.
